MEDCO MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the IRMAA surcharge for Medicare Part D? Is it reimbursed?

Members with income of $85,000 or more, or married couples filing joint tax returns with income of $170,000 or more, will be subject to the Medicare Part D income-related monthly adjustment amount (IRMAA). Similar to Medicare Part B IRMAA, the level of surcharge is based on modified adjusted gross income (AGI) as reported on the member’s most recent IRS tax return. This amount will be deducted from Social Security payments. There is no reimbursement for this surcharge. Surcharge rates are available here.

Does each plan participant get a new drug card?

Yes. All Medicare-eligible retirees and their Medicare-eligible dependent spouses and partners are issued their own individual Medco Medicare cards with unique numbers.

What if I am enrolled in Medicare but my spouse or partner isn't? What card does he or she use?

Those who are not Medicare-eligible will continue to use the "old" cards from the other plan.

If my spouse drops out of the new plan, can I stay in it?

Yes. Participants may individually disenroll or "opt out" from the plan without affecting their spouse/partners. However, no other Rx drug coverage from the Welfare Fund is available to those who disenroll.

Will my mail-order prescriptions be transferred over to the new plan?

The answer is a qualified "Yes." But dependent spouses and partners who previously used a member's online account will need to create new online accounts of their own. Medco customer service will help with this, 866-544-6963.
