Beginning July 1, 2017, NYC Health Benefit Program basic health insurance plans will cover medicines used to treat substance-use disorders. This includes medicines usually prescribed for opioid addiction and dependence. These medicines, along with counseling and behavioral therapies, can successfully treat these disorders and help with recovery.
Because these drugs are covered by NYC HBP insurance plans, the PSC-CUNY Welfare Fund will no longer include them on our list of covered medications after July 1, 2017.
For a list of the opioid addiction drugs covered by Emblem Health Plans (GHI plans, HIP plans and Vytra) and the co-pay rates, click here.
As other NYC HBP plans make the same information available, we will include it.
